Poached Pears

Serves: 4

One from the first day at catering college! They taste great, warmed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Recipe:
4 Pears
350g Caster Sugar
1 Litres Water
1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract

Method
1. Put the sugar, water and vanilla in a pan and bring to the boil. When the sugar has dissolved remove from the heat.

2. Peel the pears, leaving the stem on. Cut a baking paper slightly larger than the saucepan and crumple it up.

3. Stand the pears in the syrup, place the baking paper over the top. Feel for the stems and cut 4 small holes to let them through! Cover the pan with a lid, put them back on the heat and let simmer gently for 1 ½ Hours.

4. Remove from the heat and let the pears cool in the syrup.
