    The Fresh Egg Test!

The fresh eggs test! Immerse an egg in a pan of cool salted water. If it sinks its fresh, if it rises it’s too old! (Probably easier to check the date these days!)

    Sugar Syrup

Bar tenders syrup! You will see this is required in some cocktail recipes to help sweeten the brew. It's as simple as this: add 5 tbsp of white sugar to 10 tbsp of water. Place in a pan and bring to the boil and cook for 2 mins or until sugar has dissolved. Cool and use. You can keep this in the fridge for up to 3 months!

    Bashing things up!

Bashing things up! If a recipe requires something broken up, place it in a plastic bag before unleashing your fury. This way all of the ingredients make it into the recipe and not all over your kitchen!!!

    Buying Fresh Fish!

Buying Fresh Fish! Things to look for in fresh fish, a smell of the sea not stinky fish, clear and un-sunken eyes, firm not soft flesh, bright red not brown gills and these are just a few! Supermarkets have a great selection now; don’t be afraid to ask to have a closer look and a smell!

    BBQ sauce recipe

    Suitible for vegetarians!

The BBQ sauce recipe can be brushed on anything! Chicken, beef, pork or vegetables. It will also keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 6 months! Or you could just use it as a dipping sauce!

    Easy Cleaning

Line oven trays and grill pans with foil to make for easy cleaning!

    "Reduced" Section

Always have a good look in the “Reduced” section in the supermarket. This week I found a pack of 4 Chicken Breasts, they needed to be used on day of purchase, but were only £1.50, over 65% saving!!!!

A quick guide to cookery terms!

A quick guide to some cookery terms! g = grams, kg = kilograms, l = litres, ml = millilitres, oz = ounce, lb = pounds, tsp = teaspoon, tbsp = tablespoon…….

    Cocktail Shaker

A great bit of kit but you can use anything with a lid. In the past I’ve use plastic food tubs, jam jars and old bottles. All have the same affect!

    Something Salad!

Salad dressing! To save dirtying another bowl, if you buy bags of mixed salad, add the dressing to the mix while still in the bag and give it a shake! Ta da!
